Scratch Remover
Scratch Remover are two words which when put together make me shudder more than a Freddie Krueger movie! I hate to think of any scratches on my vehicles let alone a scratch that needs repair. In any event, sooner or later, most of us that take pride in our “rides” whether it is a car, a truck, a jet ski a snowmobile or a boat, will find ourselves in need of some sort of scratch remover. It is an unfortunate fact of life that if you play with your toys, they are going to get scratched.
There are many good manufacturers of scratch remover products on the market. We have talked about 3M and Quixx in other areas of this site. We can also mention Mother’s, Simoniz and Meguiar’s, three additional fine producers of a quality scratch remover. However, this page will focus on the Turtle Wax Premium Grade Scratch Repair Kit. This kit will remove light to medium scratches and other surface imperfections. It includes three grades of restoration pads, some spray lubricant, paint clarifying compound, and a clear coat finish pen.
The folks over at Turtle Wax also produce a Scratch & Swirl Remover for tackling light to medium scratches but right now we are going to concentrate on their more elaborate product of Scratch Remover. To start the process, you will want to wash your vehicle with a quality automotive grade washing fluid to remove any road grime, dirt, as well as bird and tree droppings. Next, using the clear coat pen included in the kit, you will want to trace the scratch which in essence will fill the scratch line with material. At this point you need to wait between ten and thirty minutes until the scratch repair line is completely dry. Now mask off the area that is being worked on and proceed to spray the lubricant on both the damaged area and the restoration pad that you are about to use. Turtle Wax includes three pads, numbers one to three with number one being employed for the deepest scratches while number three is for use on the slightest imperfections. After you have performed some light sanding to the repair area rubbing in the direction of the scratch, lubricate the next mildest restoration pad and repeat the process until you have worked through all restoration pads from roughest to finest. The final step is to use the polishing compound included in the kit so as to bring the gloss back to the area that you just finished wet sanding.
The scratch remover will have removed any wax that had been previously applied to the vehicle so now would be a good time for a fresh application of wax to the entire car, boat, or whatever toy you may be working on. You will be pleasantly amazed at the final result that emerges right before your eyes! The best part of all is that no power tools will be needed for this restoration project. Additionally, you will have avoided an unnecessary trip and expense to the body shop.
